Overview

The Certificate Course in Pharmacy (Homoeo) is a one-year academic and practical training programme designed to equip aspiring pharmacists with the essential knowledge and skills required to serve in Government Homoeopathic dispensaries across Kerala. Conducted under the supervision and academic stewardship of the Department of Homoeopathic Pharmacy, Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, this course is a foundational qualification for Homoeopathic pharmacist appointments made by the Kerala Public Service Commission.

To develop professionally competent and ethically responsible homoeopathic pharmacists who contribute effectively to public health and the homoeopathic system of medicine.

Mission

To provide in-depth knowledge of the principles and practice of Homoeopathic Pharmacy.

To develop skill and precision in the preparation, dispensing, and preservation of homoeopathic medicines.

To inculcate ethical values, discipline, and responsibility in handling homoeopathic drugs and patients.

To bridge theoretical knowledge with practical field training through immersive institutional postings.

To foster a generation of pharmacists aligned with the standards of homoeopathic pharmaceutical care.

Objectives

To introduce students to the foundational principles of Homoeopathic Pharmacy and Materia Medica.

To train students in the identification, preparation, and standardization of homoeopathic medicines.

To familiarize trainees with pharmacopoeial standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

To offer hands-on experience in government homoeo clinics, the college hospital, and HOMCO (The Kerala State Homoeopathic Co-operative Pharmacy Ltd.).

Academic Activities

Theory Classes: Covering the basics of anatomy, physiology, hygiene and prevention of diseases, first aid, homoeopathic philosophy, homoeopathic pharmacy, industrial, hospital and clinical pharmacy, pharmacopoeia, and dispensing techniques.

Lab Training: Exposure to drug preparation—mother tinctures, triturations, dilutions, and potencies.

Hospital Postings: Practical exposure through postings at Govt. Homoeo Medical College Hospital and selected government dispensaries.

Industry Exposure: Training at HOMCO, The Kerala State Homoeopathic Co-operative Pharmacy Ltd., to understand industrial-level manufacturing and quality control.

Evaluation: Periodic internal assessments, practical evaluations, and a final examination at the end of the course.

Infrastructure Support

Access to a well-equipped Pharmacy Laboratory and Drug Museum.

Use of Dispensing Units, Mother Tincture Preparation Rooms, and Reference Library.

Clinical training at College Hospital, Government Dispensaries, and HOMCO.

Eligibility & Selection

Admission to the course is open to eligible candidates as per government norms. Completion of the course is mandatory for selection as a pharmacist in Kerala’s government homoeopathic dispensaries through the Public Service Commission (PSC).
