The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Government Homoeopathic Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram is dedicated to fostering social responsibility, leadership, and community engagement among students through meaningful service activities. Guided by the NSS motto, "Not Me But You," the unit strives to develop compassionate healthcare professionals who are committed to serving society with dedication, empathy, and integrity.

The NSS Unit actively organizes and participates in a wide range of community-oriented programmes, including health awareness campaigns, medical camps, blood donation drives, environmental conservation initiatives, cleanliness campaigns, anti-drug awareness programmes, road safety campaigns, disaster management activities, and public health education programmes. Through these activities, students gain valuable opportunities to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom while contributing to the well-being of the community.

Regular observance of national and international health days, tree plantation drives, campus beautification programmes, Swachh Bharat initiatives, yoga and wellness programmes, gender sensitization campaigns, and outreach activities in schools and local communities form an integral part of the unit's annual calendar. The NSS Unit also collaborates with government departments, local self-government institutions, healthcare organizations, NGOs, and voluntary organizations to implement socially relevant projects that address contemporary public health challenges. Special emphasis is placed on developing leadership qualities, teamwork, communication skills, and civic responsibility among student volunteers. Through orientation programmes, special camps, and community service activities, volunteers are encouraged to understand the health needs of society, promote preventive healthcare, and participate in nation-building initiatives.

The NSS Unit regularly conducts awareness programmes on topics such as substance abuse prevention, mental health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, organ donation, nutrition, environmental sustainability, and lifestyle modification. These programmes empower students to become effective health educators and advocates for positive behavioural change within the community.

National Youth Day was celebrated on Jan 12th NSS Volunteer Miss. Jyothika Mohan gave an introduction about the importance of observing National Youth Day. A quiz competition was held based on the life and contributions of Netaji. Aysha N. And Ashritha K. Menon became winners of the programme and gifts were distributed to them.

As part of Anti drug Campaign, Part II of Keralam Govt, our first outside campus programme was conducted at Kalady Govt. High School, Tvm on Jan 23rd of this year. Introductory speech was given by Principal in charge of the School, NSS Programme Officer and leader of NSS Volunteers. Then a spectacular talk against anti drug campaign was given by the NSS volunteer, Miss. Sneha Ignatius, who is also the winner of Elocution competition conducted by Govt. of Keralam against drug addiction. ‘SAY NO TO DRUGS’ Shoot out was inaugurated by Principal in charge of the Kalady School by shooting football. Then school children enjoyed shooting out saying “No to Drugs”. First BHMS NSS volunteers played a drug drama of 5 min duration against drug addiction. NSS Volunteer Miss. Greeshma said vote of thanks to the programme. Programme started at 9.30 am and ended at 12.30

In collaboration with BHUMI – Non profit organization, NSS GHMCT Unit conducted an Upcycling campaign on jan 26th, Republic Day to create awareness in Recycling used clothes, paper and plastic. NSS Volunteers and CCP students participated in the event. Based on the video played on the screen, Paper bags, Cloth bags and bird feeders were made by them. Programme started at 9.30 am and ended at 12.30

NSS Unit of GHMCT was formally inaugurated on Feb 1st NSS leader Miss.Jyothika Mohan welcomed the event. Principal and Controlling Officer Dr Betty presided over the function. NSS State Cell Officer, Anzer Sir delivered the keynote address and inaugurated the NSS Unit by lighting the lamp. NSS Advisory Committee member, DrBindu Pereiera S., (HOD, Depat of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology), Dr Preethe B. (HOD, Physiology & Biochemistry) and Miss. Jaisha J.U. (College Chairperson) externded their warm greetings. NSS leader Mr. Nandu J.Pradeep gave vote of thanks. Then there was a brilliant orientation class by the National speaker, Brahma Nayakam Sir (National Youth awardee 2000) who presented the goals of NSS in an interesting and touching way. The inaugural function was held between 1.30 and 5.30 pm.
